Use your knowledge of climate science to make a real difference at a national and international level.

This is an excellent opportunity to make your mark as you join our International Climate Science team. Focusing on climate change impacts and adaptation, you will commission and manage policy-relevant research contracts. At the same time, you’ll help drive forward the development of scientific evidence for national and international policy on long-term climate stabilisation.

We’ll look to you to provide advice on the science of climate change in support of policy development. You’ll also analyse and assess scientific and technical research outputs from specialist research, including work from the UK Met Office Hadley Centre. It’s a chance to gain an insight into the science underpinning the United Nation’s climate convention as you play a key role driving forward the UK’s participation in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and other international projects.

It’s likely you have expertise and experience in climate change impacts and adaptation. Whatever your background, you will have a degree with a significant environmental or physical sciences component. A higher degree or equivalent research together with a flair for communicating complex and scientific topics to non-expert audiences would be highly desirable.

Play a key role in supporting our mission to power the country and protect the planet.

Interviews: expected to be week beginning 18th June 2012.

DECC values equality and diversity in employment and welcomes applications from all sectors of society.
