Play a key role in regulating offshore gas and oil production.

Take on this important opportunity, and you will ensure high standards of environmental performance and protection on the United Kingdom Continental Shelf. Part of the Offshore Environment Inspectorate Team, responsible for regulating offshore gas and oil production operations, you will ensure compliance with our investigation and enforcement policies and procedures.

Working as part of a dynamic team, you will support Offshore Environmental Inspectors in the investigation of breaches of environmental legislation and resultant enforcement activity. You’ll also respond to environmental accidents and incidents and liaise with industry representatives, other teams within DECC, and other government departments.

You’ll come to us with a proven track record of criminal investigations in the Police, HMRC, or another government department or agency. Willing to undertake domestic travel, including helicopter travel to offshore installations, you will have completed or quickly be able to pass the approved Offshore Survival Training and Offshore Medical courses.

A strategic thinker, you will be skilled in analysis and the use of evidence with considerable experience of managing people, projects, and programmes. Your excellent communication skills will enable you to put across complex messages within DECC, other government departments, and within the offshore industry sectors.

At the Department of Energy and Climate Change we’re focused on heading off the twin risks of catastrophic climate change and a shortfall in UK energy supplies. We’re strengthening our teams at all levels to support the delivery of a low carbon future for the UK. Now’s the time to join us.

Applicants will be expected to undergo security clearance.
