Description

Bush Heritage Australia is a national leader in landscape-scale conservation. Independent and evidence-based, we work where we are needed most: in areas of high conservation value with low levels of protection. We protect and help manage 6.2 million hectares of land, providing habitat for over 5800 native species, including at least 235 threatened species.  We have two proven approaches to what we do: we carefully select, purchase and manage landscapes of high conservation value; and we work in partnership with others, including Traditional Owners, to achieve conservation outcomes.

About the role

The Healthy Landscape Manager is a key regional leadership position and will be responsible for coordinating land management and conservation activities in Bush Heritage’s programs in NSW, including on reserves and for aspects of program development on Bush Heritage’s Aboriginal partnerships. The Healthy Landscape Manager is responsible for managing staff, contractors and volunteers to deliver strategic conservation and biodiversity goals/objectives. The healthy landscape manager will work with partners, staff and volunteers develop and deliver Priority Landscape plans, property management plans, operational work plans, budgets, HSE processes, governance, stakeholder communication & partnership engagement across their region of responsibility.  

What you'll need to succeed

  • Commitment and passion for nature conservation and the objectives and values of Bush Heritage.
  • Tertiary qualification or extensive relevant experience in conservation science and/or land management.
  • Extensive practical experience in natural resource management / land management and ecological systems in Rangeland, wetland and/or grassy woodland environments and experience in influencing/engaging in policy at a state or national level.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health and Safety issues and practices, and a proven ability to manage risk.
  • Experience effectively leading, managing and coaching staff, including the capacity to manage volunteers and contractors.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills along with organisational, planning and budgeting skills.
  • Ability to develop, implement and monitor works plans, including infrastructure works and maintenance.  A demonstrated high level knowledge and understanding of project management practices and principles.
  • A proven ability to establish and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders (including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities, the mining, tourism, and pastoral sectors) in a complex environment as well as fostering internal working relationships with the broader Bush Heritage team. 
  • High level of computer literacy and proficiency with personal computers including word processing, spreadsheet, GIS  and data software.
