Description

Organisation overview

Blue Ventures is an award-winning conservation organisation that rebuilds tropical fisheries with coastal communities. We work in places where the ocean is vital for local cultures and economies, and we’re committed to protecting marine biodiversity in ways that benefit coastal people.

Our critically acclaimed PHE approach is a holistic model for sustainable development, so-called because it reflects the connections between People, their Health and the Environment. It integrates community-based family planning and other health services with local marine management and alternative coastal livelihood initiatives, and helps to build resilience to climate change.

We’ve been implementing PHE partnerships along Madagascar’s west coast with several health agencies for over a decade, and now we’re engaging with like-minded marine conservation organisations in other low income tropical coastal states to share our learning and support the development of PHE partnerships in new geographies.

Summary job description

We’re creating this exciting new role within our UK-based outreach team in order to help refine our strategy for scaling up PHE through partnerships and learning networks, scope and pursue new partnership opportunities, identify and engage with a range of partners, and support our growing PHE team.

The position will entail working closely with our UK-based technical PHE staff to support our colleagues and partners across southeast Asia and the western Indian Ocean region, and scope new opportunities for adoption of this model through a combination of desk-based research and in-person visits to national and international partners. This work will contribute directly to the uptake of PHE programming in the marine conservation sector and the strengthening of community engagement in coastal resource management.

We’re looking for a highly motivated, analytical and responsive development professional with an understanding of the realities of working in low-resource settings and a keen interest in cross-sector programming. You’ll share our passion for advancing the rights of coastal communities in relation to healthcare, food security and local marine management. This role offers the opportunity to support our field staff and partners working at the intersection of multiple challenges facing small-scale fishers in the coastal tropics, and to make an important contribution to the way in which Blue Ventures creates lasting impact at scale. The dynamic nature of this strategic workstream will give the successful candidate plenty of opportunities for creative thinking and professional growth, and will allow for this role to evolve in line with the growing needs of the organisation.
