Programme Description
The Climate Group is recruiting for a Head of Transport to direct our international efforts on transportation and mobility. Initially the role will focus predominantly on developing and overseeing our electric vehicle programme EV20.
EV20 is a major Climate Group initiative to speed the deployment of plug-in electric vehicles. Convened by The Climate Group and chaired by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, EV20 will comprise a core working group of twenty leading businesses and governments. It will focus on activities in the next three years designed to speed up market transformation by 2020, with a particular focus on fleet, finance and policy.
A working group was formed in December 2009 and the initiative launch formally in September. Working Group members include: Better Place, Ener1, Johnson Controls, Renault-Nissan, TNT, Venturi, Amsterdam, France (Ministry for Industry), Greater London Authority/Transport for London, Ile-de-France, North Rhine-Westphalia, Quebec, Queensland and South Australia. Initial work by the EV20 will focus on development of fleet coalitions in key markets and mobilizing finance and policy support.
Purpose
You will be responsible for running our EV20 programme globally and for tracking and responding to the low carbon transport agenda, developing other campaigns and programmes over time. You will report into our Director of Programmes and will be expected to work closely with colleagues internationally. International travel will be required.
Main duties: Develop, plan and execute a strategy for the programme building on our consultation to date with the EV20 Working Group and other partners. Build our stakeholder relationships and partnerships on EV20, building enthusiasm and buy-in for plug-in electric vehicles and our work. Ensure that we are effectively tracking the evolving electric vehicle agenda and wider low carbon transport agenda, and that our transport strategy continues to be based on the latest thinking and research. Represent the organisation and programme externally to industry events and the media. Ensuring the correct resourcing for the programme working with work area and regional heads to resource plan, and managing the budget for the programme Coordinate our global teams working on regional projects within the programme in the US, Europe, China, India and Australia. You will manage one to two staff directly but co-ordinate a network of five to ten professionals at any given time. Raise new funds and resources for the programme, working with our senior management and development team.
Key Skills A thorough understanding of the low carbon transport and EV agenda, ideally built through direct experience in government, industry, the financial sector or relevant NGOs Experience of running a global team within a matrix structure. Ability to manage, motivate and bring together cross cultural teams working across time zones. Proven experience of relationship and network building at a senior level. Excellent project and budget management skills Ability to sell ideas and concepts to develop new funding and resources. Excellent presentation skills. Excellent written and spoken English. Other languages will be considered a significant asset, particularly German, French and Mandarin. Comfortable working within a constantly changing environment. High energy - a self-starter willing to engage in the role quickly and take responsibility for the delivery of the programme.
