PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: To develop and lead a comprehensive social science research and monitoring program for overall understanding of the attitudes and activities of the stakeholders in Galapagos. II. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES ? Guide the course of social science research at the Charles Darwin Foundation (CDF) to improve understanding of relations between social actors and the natural environment in Galapagos as a basis for specific and reliable advice to the Ecuadorian Government. ? Focus research on analysis of civil society and the economy in the archipelago through studies on human geography, tourism, the lifestyle of island inhabitants, and governance in Galapagos. ? Conduct the CDF’s two major social science projects: the Geographical Footprint Project and the Ecotourism Pilot Project. ? Develop the CDF social science team and prepare new proposals for research on social, cultural and environmental impact issues. ? Actively participate in the CDF science and research group as the “human dimension” thematic area representative. ? Coordinate activities with other local institutions. ? Produce technical publications and scientific reports to support conservation efforts in Galapagos.
