ACE Research is an internationally respected research unit that consistently delivers ground-breaking research in decentralised energy – making a real impact in accelerating the transition to net zero.

As part of the ADE, we work with businesses, Government, Parliamentarians, academics and a huge network of stakeholders bringing together research, policy and politics in some of the most difficult areas of energy sector decarbonisation.

The ADE is a small team who are passionate about making a difference in a culture that is collaborative, non-hierarchical and dynamic. About the role

The ADE is recruiting for its Head of Research.

This is an important role in the ADE, with responsibility for leading the organisation's research team. You will ensure that the team develops and delivers high quality research that can have an impact on policy and practice. This will include co-creation of new research ideas, securing funding, and managing the team to ensure that it is skilled, effective and integrated within the wider ADE.

Person specification

We welcome applicants with a range of backgrounds and experiences, recognising that the skills and insights you've gained elsewhere can be just as valuable as the specific criteria listed below.

Essential:

  • Strong qualitative and/or quantitative analytical skills, demonstrated through a track record of energy-related research
  • Proven ability to translate research findings into compelling, actionable policy and practice recommendations for specialist and non-specialist audiences alike
  • Proven ability to secure funding for research from a variety of sources such as grants, sponsorship and contracts, and through partnership working
  • Strong analytical and leadership skills, with the capacity to see the big picture and motivating your team with a compelling vision backed up by the ability to deliver
  • Proven ability to build and maintain networks with senior stakeholders in policy, business and academia; demonstrating your ability to act as a champion of the decentralised energy sector
  • Experience in line management
  • The ability to thrive and excel in a a small team environment
  • Experience in managing budgets
  • Team leadership experience, including developing and delivering a team strategy and in developing a high performance team with a culture of collaboration, curiosity and research excellence
  • Proven ability to support more junior members of team to progress and develop professionally via mentorship etc.
