Head of Project (m/f) in Jalalabad (Nangarhar Province), Afghanistan

In Nangarhar, Welthungerhilfe has set up the agricultural project "Roses for Nangarhar" which helps farmers grow roses in order to produce attar of roses. The aim of this project is to offer families a legal alternative to opium production, which will guarantee them a stable income.

Objectives and responsibilities of the position

As Head of Project (m/f) you are required to support, actively shape and coordinate the pro-ject's successful transition into a private organisation under Afghan control. You are also re-sponsible for carrying out and coordinating Welthungerhilfe's activities in accordance with the framework specified as regards content, time schedules and finance. 

Your most important duties are as follows:

  • representing Welthungerhilfe and agreeing the project concept and planned project activities with the local decision-makers, and with other aid agencies and development organisations operating in the project area
  • boosting the rural development in the region
  • improving the sustainable management of natural resources
  • the further conceptual development of the project, and to prepare and implement further project phases
  • appointing, managing, and providing guidance for local experts


Your qualifications will include:

  • a university or polytechnic degree, ideally in economics or agrarian economics, as well as experience of organic farming
  • relevant experience in organisational development and the promotion of small and medium-sized companies in the context of development policy  
  • coordination and organisational skills, even under high workload
  • excellent negotiating skills
  • a very good command of both spoken and written English
