WCMC is a UK charity, based in Cambridge, which supports the United Nations Environment Programme. We work in collaboration with UNEP, under the banner of UNEP-WCMC. Our mission is to evaluate and highlight the many values of biodiversity and put authoritative biodiversity knowledge at the centre of decision-making. Since our establishment in the 1970s, the Centre has been at the forefront of the compilation, management, analysis and dissemination of global biodiversity information, and has an outstanding record of achievement.
WCMC are now seeking a permanent Head of Programme to work with us.
What the role is: The Climate Change & Biodiversity Programme aims to provide authoritative information to decision-makers where the issues of climate change and biodiversity conservation intersect. The Head of Programme will lead the development and effective and high quality delivery of a portfolio of projects at the science-policy interface that contribute to achieving the mission of UNEP-WCMC.
What the key responsibilities are: The Head of Programme will lead the programme in developing, resourcing and delivering a portfolio of projects focusing on the impacts of climate change on biodiversity and on the role of ecosystems in climate change mitigation and adaptation.
What type of candidate we are looking for: The Head of Programme will hold a postgraduate qualification in (MSc or higher) in biological or environmental sciences, geography or a related discipline and will have a strong contemporary understanding of climate change in an international context. The successful candidate will be experienced at motivating and leading a team to ensure the effective development and management of a science-based programme with multiple projects. Furthermore, you will have an understanding of the essential characteristics of successful partnership-building and will be able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively.
