Climate change is now widely accepted as the largest long-term environmental problem facing humanity and its major cause is carbon dioxide emissions from energy use. A not-for-profit organisation formed in 1992, we've rapidly become a leading figure in the fight to address climate change. Our aim is to promote sustainable energy, while reducing consumption and carbon emissions in the domestic and transport sectors throughout the UK.

Circa £50- £55,000 depending on experience + excellent benefits

The purpose of this post is to lead the Energy Saving Trust (EST) in strategic planning, including prioritisation, activity and resource allocation and performance measurement. This is a new role, reflecting recent changes in the way that EST plans its business and evaluates its performance, with an outcome-lead approach.

The main responsibilities for this post will be:

  • managing the annual planning and performance cycle including preparing an annual corporate plan and leading periodic in year reviews
  • defining and collating data to reporting against KPIs and presenting performance reports to the EMG and making recommendations for action to address issues arising
  • preparing and presenting funding bids for DECC, DFT and OGDs which meet their department priorities to secure EST core funds, and supporting Heads of DAs in the same for bids for SG, WAG and NIA
  • providing performance information to government funders which allows them to judge EST contribution to government targets
  • planning and managing a programme of evaluation studies to provide insight into the outcome ( in terms of carbon), cost effectiveness and customer satisfaction

You will also work closely with:

  • The finance department who are responsible for preparing budget scenarios, financial analysis of business plans and for monitoring spend, and who provide the corporate performance tools
  • The corporate affairs team who are responsible for our relationships with government
  • The business development team who are responsible for securing other funding sources and monitoring overall income scenarios as well as working with team heads across EST and providing advice, data and challenge to the EMG.

To be successful in this post, you will have:

  • Experience leading and improving performance in a corporate planning and performance function
  • Excellent communication and change management skills
  • Understanding of performance measurement tools & techniques as well as market research methodologies & statistical techniques
  • Degree qualification, preferably in an environmental, engineering or scientific area
  • Knowledge of the energy, climate change or environmental sector and/or public sector is desirable
