Description
Climate change is now widely accepted as the largest long-term environmental problem facing humanity and its major cause is carbon dioxide emissions from energy use. A not-for-profit organisation formed in 1992, we've rapidly become a leading figure in the fight to address climate change. Our aim is to promote sustainable energy, while reducing consumption and carbon emissions in the domestic and transport sectors throughout the UK.

Due to a restructure within our Delivery department, we have an opportunity for the above role to work on a permanent basis within the National, Regional and Community Delivery team. The purpose of this role is to act as the Head of the team delivering services to Local Authorities on mitigation of climate change as it affects the carbon emissions from their own housing stock and from the households in their geographic area of coverage.

The key responsibilities of the role will be to:
  • Recruit, retain, motivate and develop the Local Authority Services team;
  • Ensure the delivery of the Local Authority Services programmes, as defined in the annual workplan, to budget and to targets;
  • Establishment of and delivery against strategic plan for Energy Saving Trust's role in Local Authorities;
  • Ensure Energy Saving Trust feeds into Government decisions on Local Authority Performance Framework (climate change);
  • Liaise with Government and other key external stakeholders in respect of the work of the Local Authority Services team.
To be successful in this role you will have:
  • Experience in strategic development and policy understanding;
  • Previous experience in managing staff and budgets;
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders together with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels both internally and externally;
  • Project and programme management experience with the ability to simultaneously manage and co-ordinate multiple projects;
  • An understanding of the UK policy context with regard to Local Authorities and the ability to develop appropriate initiatives and services to help Government meet its obligations;
  • An understanding of how Local and Regional Government operates and the current policies they are required to operate within;
  • An understanding of sustainable energy and the challenges facing the sector;
  • Good negotiation and facilitation skills, particularly between groups with differing needs and objectives;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and well developed influencing skills.
