This is an opportunity to work with a wholly owned member company of an international motor group and is the sole UK Importer and Distributor of group passenger and commercial vehicles. Group Services exists to support all of the brands providing services including parts and vehicle logistics, parts planning, trade parts, market research, quality auditing, contact centre management, technical support, roadside assistance, paint and body and warranty. The role reports to the Group Services Director and is responsible for one other member of staff which is an Environmental Compliance Manager. The main responsibilities of the role are as follows:
1 Lead the collaborative development of strategies and drive activity to fulfil the Group objective of Environmental leadership in line BoM determined direction.
2 Coordinate and report on activity in the 6 key areas where ‘decarbonisation’ has been defined a priority: vehicle logistics, parts logistics, Roadside Assistance, group travel, facilities and retail networks.
3 Responsible for formulating strategies to drive staff engagement and communication of Environmental activities and to ensure broad understanding of its approach and results.
4 Central point of contact to ensure; alignment of direction and activities and awareness of UK activity (and vice versa).
5 Support all brands with relevant, up to date political and environmental information which will support fleet and retail new car sales activity.
6 Represent the Group at all appropriate environmental external relations forums and factory forums. Play a leading role in relevant committees and projects, forums to include:
• Environmental Labelling
• Environmental Policy Committee- PCC (A SMMT policy committee)
• ELV Coordination Group
• International expert group on Climate change
7 Proactively seek to influence forthcoming Environmental Regulations by engaging at an early stage with lead officials in the Group, ACEA and SMMT.
8 Ensure UK compliance to all environmental legislation and to be aware and prepared for any future changes. To include CRC at NSC and retail level.
9 Promote and exploit commercial opportunities of recycling vehicles and other waste material.
10 Manage the ELV operational contract to ensure that as a minimum the Group meets its legal requirements and seek competitive advantage wherever possible.
Key Objectives for next 12 months:
In consultation with key business area senior managers, construct a strategic and operation plan with measurable outputs to decarbonise the Group operation.
Challenges for role:
Establishing a sustainable commercial framework within which the UK business will operate which successfully marries the commercial needs of the business, the existing Corporate Governance and Shareholder ambition for Environment Leadership.
Person Specification:
1 Understanding of UK and European Environmental Legislation (preferable but not mandatory)
2 Previous extensive experience developing and implementing a high level environmental and CSR strategy for a well known corporate organisation or similar experience working as a consultant working for a number of different clients. 
3 Ability to operate and influence at BoM and First Line Level
4 Strong influencing and communication skills (both verbal and written)
5 Educated to degree level
6 Experience of high value contract management
