Work type: Permanent - Full Time, Permanent - Working Differently Available Base Location: Reading or Perth Our SSEN Distribution Asset Management team consists of Asset Investment, Asset Risk Management, Policy and Equipment Specification. Asset Management is responsible for the identification and investment across the Electricity Network, together with the running and ownership of the Asset maintaining and creating policy and standards that our Network is run to, for the benefit of our Customer. They are involved in running a programme of projects exploring new technologies and commercial arrangements across network activities and identifying practical solutions. They are also involved in operating some of the new solutions that have been developed by the innovation team. The project portfolio is predominantly funded by the Low Carbon Network Fund or the Network Innovation Allowance which requires considerable management and governance to ensure compliance. What is the Role? The Head of Environment, Consents & Sustainability Strategic Policy is responsible for developing SSEN Distribution’s overarching Environmental, Consents & Sustainability strategies and Policies. You will build high value relationships with Government, Consenting Bodies, Statutory Authorities, external influencers and internal business units to ensure SSEN Distribution, is recognised as an industry leader in environmental & sustainability practices and to be the champion for driving the delivery of our Science based targets. You will lead the business, using resources from around the Distribution to implement these strategies throughout the business, ensuring policies, environmental management systems and processes are developed, communicated, monitored and embedded into business culture. You will facilitate, streamlined and highly successful consenting outcomes for capital delivery, and efficient/innovative practices for operations, connections and asset management. In addition, you will be responsible for the identification and delivery of Science based targets across the organisation. What do I need? To be successful in this role you will be a member of the either an environmental institution or the Royal Town Planning Institute and have a broad understanding of the system spatial Planning in Scotland, England and Town & Country Planning. You’ll have a deep knowledge of environmental impact legislation, construction environmental management and sustainability management. You will have experience representing at public local enquiries & hearings and be comfortable supporting legal teams to prepare written opinions on process and facts of law You’ll use your excellent communication & interpersonal skills to engage with government representatives, consenting and statutory authorities to enhance SSE’s reputation as an industry leader in environmental & sustainability practices. Using your leadership skills, you will enable and develop a high performing team, engaging others to deliver and delegating effectively to meet the business goals. In addition, you will have knowledge of energy networks structure, governance, funding and relevant sections of the electricity Act 1989 It is an essential requirement for this role that you have a full, current driving licence.
