Description

We are seeking an exceptional individual to lead the team responsible for greening the capital’s energy use and ensuring affordable supply for Londoners.

Reporting to the Assistant Director for Environment and Energy, you will manage and develop a large team of around twenty-five professional experts, delivering the Mayor’s vision for clean energy use and playing an essential role in getting London to Net Zero by 2030.

Your delivery portfolio will include major programmes such as Warmer Homes (over £40 million this year), support for district and community energy schemes, and innovative accelerators for commercial and public sector retrofit.  You will also lead the GLA’s commercial energy activities, including strategic and commercial operations of the Mayor’s retail energy provider (London Power); collaboration programmes across the GLA Group to accelerate the use and provision of clean energy; and development of a pipeline of projects to be funded by the Mayor’s Green Finance Facility.

To succeed in this role you will have a strong background in complex policy and delivery work related to energy, with experience overseeing design, procurement, contracting and commercial operations of high-value programmes.  You must also be able to lead a large, diverse and multidisciplinary team, providing motivation and support for their professional development.

The ability to work with senior staff and politicians, establishing their trust and confidence, will be critical. You will need to demonstrate your ability to influence key stakeholders at a senior level, as well as build relationships.  The role requires a flexible, adaptable and collaborative approach, and will involve working on many initiatives simultaneously, in a fast paced and political environment.

The Energy team is based within the GLA Environment and Energy Unit, which is responsible for the delivery of the Mayor’s environment vision. This is a rare opportunity to work with colleagues who are committed to making a difference to the lives of Londoners and future generations.

This role will be based at London Fire Brigade’s Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL). At present GLA staff are working largely from home, with office space available.  Over the coming weeks and months, we will be moving to hybrid working as part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as this role is open to job share.

In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan and a career average pension scheme.

If you have a question about the role, please contact Assistant Director, Catherine Barber at catherine.barber@london.gov.uk; or the recruitment process then please contact a member of the recruitment team via email on glarecruitment@engageats.co.uk quoting reference GLA4870.
