Description

Are you an experienced and passionate ecologist? Would you like to drive our work restoring nature at scale in Somerset? Have you got the energy and enthusiasm to lead a committed team of ecologists to have an impact for wildlife across the county?

We’re looking for a passionate, and experienced ecologist to develop and lead our landscape-scale strategy. Based at either our Cheddar or Taunton offices but with the need for regular travel across the county, this is a crucial, strategic post defining the direction of the Trust’s conservation work to restore nature at a landscape scale.

Head of Ecology

Salary: £27,317 to £33,619 per annum (according to experience)

Based: Taunton or Cheddar

The post holder will oversee the development of programmes and projects that create a coherent and resilient ecological network across Somerset and provide the technical ecological lead across the Trust including the achievement of positive biodiversity outcomes through the planning process.

You will have at least 5 years’ post-qualification experience working with nature conservation organisations in the public and/or voluntary sectors and knowledge of the ecology of a broad range of UK habitats and species. Alongside this you will have an understanding of how to deliver landscape-scale conservation and ecological networks, and the conservation legislation, policy and theory that underpins this.  Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and often with partner organisations, you will represent the Trust in meetings, workshops and lectures. Your leadership skills will include line-management, project development and budget management.

If you are passionate about restoring nature at a large scale and have demonstrable experience as an ecologist, this senior role could be the next step in your career.

You will be joining a friendly, committed and supportive team with line management responsibilities of several officers. Somerset Wildlife Trust offers a great package including pension contribution, life insurance, payment of professional fees and a great working environment.

Closing date for applications midnight on: Thursday 11 July 2019

Interviews to be held at Cheddar on: Monday 22 July 2019
