World Land Trust (WLT) is a major UK charity which promotes the conservation, protection & improvement of the natural environment throughout the world.  The Head of Donor Development will be responsible for fundraising development and monitoring financial targets, including recruitment, retention, regularity and policy matters. This is an integral part of the digital and communications strategy and the individual will be responsible for the management of existing donors and data management, income generating activities, legacy development, Friends recruitment, Gift Aid management and all aspects of growing and managing the Trust’s support base.

Duties and Responsibilities

  •  To lead and be responsible for specified fundraising activities, events and appeals.
  • To provide support and guidance for new and existing supporters to ensure that they receive appropriate mailings to
    maximise their fundraising potential.
  • To work flexible hours when necessary to maximise contact with supporters (this would mainly be through events)
  • To maximise current and future income generation opportunities with new individual supporters and groups.
  • To fully understand and use the fundraising database to ensure accurate and up to date records and produce
    reports as requested.
  • To provide proposals and plans as requested to develop donor strategy

 Role specific responsibilities

  • To draft and edit donor communications with the Head of Communications (HOC)
  • To co-ordinate donor development activities with the Head of Digital Communications (HODC) to ensure efficient
    flow from website and ways in which to enhance the donor experience through online support
  • To lead on legacy recruitment and develop In Memory giving
  • To lead on developing the Friends programme
  • To lead on any online and offline one-off fundraising appeals that are developed.
  • To assist with analytics and feedback mechanisms relating to donors and produce reports and recommendations for
    continuous development and improvement.
  • To work as appropriate at WLT events, usually outside office hours
  • To work with the Head of Operations (HOO) on ‘first impressions’ – including telephone answering and meet and greet at the WLT office.

Personal Development

  • To develop and maintain a sound understanding of all facets of the work undertaken by the WLT
  • To continually maintain and increase personal professional skills relevant
    to the role

Qualifications

The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate:

  • Education to degree level or equivalent
  • A comprehensive knowledge of database management and applications
  • Two years’ minimum track record of managing fundraising programmes and donor
    response.
  • Experience of managing a small team
  • Good interpersonal skills an ability to write clearly and succinctly
  • An interest in World Land Trust will be an advantage

The post is based in the World Land Trust’s headquarters in Halesworth, Suffolk.
