The Green Schools Committees Winter/Spring Associate will support the administrative details of several components of USGBC’s largest Chapter-based initiative, including customer service and volunteer coordination for a large annual meeting, annual grant program, and quarterly reporting. Overall responsibilities will include: coordinating travel and expenses of up to 70 guests at annual meeting; collection and analysis of reports for annual grant program; collection and analysis of quarterly reports from USGBC’s network of 79 Chapters nationwide; and other ongoing customer-service-like support for volunteer network.

Each of these tasks is critical to the ongoing and long term success of the Green Schools Committee program, which is an integral component of the work of the Center for Green Schools. The ideal candidate will demonstrate attention to detail, flexibility in working with a variety of internal and external partners, ability to work against hard deadlines, creativity in problem solving, and a friendly but assertive disposition. The Green Schools Committee Winter/Spring Associate will have a front row seat to the inner workings of a national grassroots campaign.

About Green Schools Committees

USGBC Chapter Green Schools Committees (GSCs) contribute to achieving the vision of the Center for Green Schools: to bring green schools to all students within this generation. Through more than 168,000 hours volunteered annually, GSCs assist their communities with on-the-ground and in-the-trenches support of green schools through information, tools and resources. GSCs serve as local experts in the field of green schools and green building, and as a direct link to the programs and initiatives of USGBC.

Position Details Include

  • Provide direct customer service for national network of USGBC volunteers, including regular email and phone contact regarding multiple programs, deadlines and deliverables
  • Comprehensive data management, including detailed records of program budget, guest travel and expenses
  • Follow up with meeting attendees via email and phone to ensure necessary documentation and reimbursements are received in a timely manner
  • Assist with collection and analysis of annual Chapter Grant reports from USGBC Chapters
  • Collection and analysis of quarterly Activity Reports from Chapter Green Schools Committees

Education & Training Requirements/Preferences

  • Current enrollment in, or recent graduation from undergraduate or graduate program of study
  • Major or specializing in a literary field, business, nonprofit management, communications (or relevant experience) preferred

Experience Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
  • Previous work experience in team/office setting preferred
  • Experience in grassroots initiatives, and/or community engagement preferred

Other Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills (MS Office)
  • A strong interest in program management and organizational growth
  • Commitment to USGBC’s mission
