Description

An experienced Business Developer/Project Manager is required to develop and implement the Green Futures Colleges Project, which will establish indigenous landscaping and life skills colleges that place previously unemployed youth into jobs through a one-year integrated learnership. This includes practical experience through an income-generating nursery and landscaping business linked to each college. The project will be piloted at two priority biodiversity sites on the Cape Flats (see www.capeflatsnature.org), and another in Nelson Mandela Bay, with a view to expand nationally.

SANBI’s Urban Conservation Programme is developing the project in partnership with the Grootbos Foundation (see www.greenfutures.co.za), Working for Water and Working for Wetlands, the City of Cape Town and Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

The successful candidate must be in possession of an appropriate tertiary qualification with at least five years’ experience in project and/or small business development and management, preferably including grassroots practice. Excellent business development, project and financial management skills, as well as a passion for facilitating community development through urban conservation, are essential. Candidates will also need to demonstrate effective fund-raising skills, excellent communicative ability (spoken and written) in English and another official language, and strong computer skills (MS Word & Excel). A valid Code B driver’s licence with one year’s practical driving experience and willingness to travel, are prerequisite.

Responsibilities will include:
• developing and implementing the
Green Futures project • raising funds required for this purpose • building and maintaining the partnerships required to achieve the aforementioned.

SANBI offers an all-inclusive annual salary package of R297 950,34.

This contract position can be renewed depending on performance and available funding.
