Position Summary

TU is seeking a Great Lakes Stream Restoration Manager to collaborate with state and federal agencies and local communities in the northeast Wisconsin to plan, fund, construct, and monitor aquatic habitat restoration projects. Projects will occur on and adjacent to National Forest Systems lands and will provide multiple benefits including flood resiliency, improvement of aquatic habitat and water quality, and protection of aquatic health and biodiversity. The position will be based in northeast Wisconsin and will focus on projects on the Peshtigo, Oconto, and Menominee watersheds.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work with local communities to plan, design, and implement culvert improvement projects that increase flood resiliency and enhance the health of aquatic ecosystems in the headwaters of the Peshtigo, Oconto, and Menonimee rivers.

  • Work with TU Great Lakes Stream Restoration Specialist to coordinate the design of habitat improvement and aquatic organism passage projects.
  • Oversee project budgets and work estimates.
  • Oversee permitting, funding and implementation of restoration projects.
  • Plan and manage multiple restoration projects simultaneously.
  • Organize technical workshops and field tours for stakeholders including contractors, county natural resources and transportation staff, local decision makers, property associations, tribal staff, and state engineers on how to design and construct flood-resilient road stream crossings.
    Write grant proposals and administer grants.
  • Coordinate with TU chapters and councils within each watershed on projects and project funding.
  • Coordinate press opportunities to highlight project implementation, when and where appropriate.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree a plus.
* Professional experience in project management and river restoration required.
* Excellent organizational and problem solving abilities.
* Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and supervise multiphase stream restoration projects.
* Experience with project and grant management, and project permitting.
* Ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders including federal and agencies, municipalities, biologists, engineers, and landowners.
* A working knowledge of principles and practices of fisheries and aquatic resource management with a particular emphasis on stream habitat requirements of brook trout.
* Ability to work independently and take initiative.
* Good written and oral communication skills.
* Passion for protecting and restoring trout populations and their watersheds.
