Overview:
I.M. Systems Group (www.imsg.com), a contractor to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), seeks a Great Lakes Restoration Specialist and Marine Debris Coordinator for the Office of Response and Restoration (ORR). This individual will work with NOAA’s Marine Debris Program (MDP), which is located in NOAA’s Silver Spring, Maryland offices. ORR (www.response.restoration.noaa.gov) is a program office in the National Ocean Service that responds to threats in order to protect and restore coastal resources. To do this ORR provides interdisciplinary scientific response to releases of oil, chemicals, and contaminants, protects and restores NOAA trust resources, and promotes the protection and restoration of coral ecosystems.
Duties:
Oversee and/or provide support to marine debris related projects, activities, and actions in the Great Lake Region.
Represent MDP at intergovernmental meetings, workshops and conferences related to marine debris and restoration efforts.
Support and participate, where appropriate, restoration project monitoring
Support development/establishment of new CRP regional partnership
Support planning and development of a G.L. Restoration Best Practices Workshop in collaboration with IL/IN Sea Grant with particular focus on climate change and invasive species.
Qualifications:
Master’s in biology or related field. If the candidate does not have a Master’s then an undergraduate degree in biology or related field with significant work experience and understanding of marine debris issues.
Strong verbal and writing skills.
Strong computer and analytical skills
Self-motivated, energetic, strategic thinker.
Experience working on interdisciplinary teams.
