Description
IMPORTANT:  This Advertiser has requested that applicants MUST be National Residents / Valid Work Permit-holders.  Other applicants need not apply.

 

Students will will be in residence at the field station and will work with a mentor on an individual research project and participate in regular discussions with researchers focusing on the environmental, ecological, and economic implications of alternative biofuel practices.

In addition, students will enroll in a Research Methods in Ecology class where they will develop skills necessary to conduct independent research.  Students will present their research finding in a community-wide poster session at the end of the program.

2010 GLBRC REU projects will focus on the following research topics:

  • Global Warming and Biofuel Crop Performance
  • Diversity and Productivity of Alternative Biofuel Crops
  • Invertebrate Populations in Miscanthus in Switchgrass fields
  • Biofuel Cropping System Implications for Water Quantity and Quality

This Program is 10 weeks long (16th May to July 30th).

Compensation:

  • $3500 stipend, plus free room and board;
  • Tuition scholarship up to $750 (for Research Methods Course)
  • Up to $350 to cover transportation to and from KBS
  • Up to $200 for research expenses

Qualifications:

Qualifications: Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing in a biological, environmental, or agricultural science.  You must be a U.S. citizen with undergraduate status to participate in these programs.
