Carnaby's Black-Cockatoo is declared “rare or likely to become extinct” under Western Australian legislation and listed as Endangered under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. The Birds Australia Carnaby's Black-Cockatoo Recovery Project, which commenced in 2001, implements key recovery actions for the conservation management of the species through collaboration with various stakeholders and land managers.
The Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo Recovery Project is seeking a suitably qualified Great Cocky Count Coordinator to engage a broad range of volunteers and to implement the 2011 Great Cocky Count and regular evening roost counts throughout the greater Perth area and regional South West. The coordinator will also be responsible for regular reporting the development of a draft final Great Cocky Count 2011 report.
Duties include coordination of the 2011 Great Cocky Count. Engagement, mobilisation and coordination of volunteers and professionals, identification of Black-Cockatoo evening roosts, establishing regular roost survey sites, thorough record keeping and data entry, report delivery, developing communication materials and engaging with media.
Applicants must have excellent communications skills, be highly motivated, able to work independently with limited supervision and available to commence employment during the first week of March 2011. A ‘C’ Class drivers licence is essential.
The position is 4 days/week for a fixed term of 5 months. Extension of the position is possible subject to funding.
Salary:$52,600 pro-rata + 9% superannuation.
