POSITION SUMMARY

The Grants Assistant provides specialized finance/accounting-related services to assigned business units within the North America Region.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Grants Assistant provides exempt-level specialized services in accounting or similar financial activities for the North America Region of the Grants Service Network. S/he is an expert in his/her area of specialization. S/he administers and maintains finance/accounting activities in accordance with TNC policies and procedures, donor requirements and best practices in financial management.

Specifically, this position provides a wide range of administrative and finance-related support to Grants Specialists and/or Finance Representatives for incoming public or private awards, outgoing sub-awards or grants, and contracts for services. Responsibilities may include handling inquiries about grant activities, conducting research on expenses recorded to the financial system, and drafting outgoing grant agreements or contracts for services using standard templates.

Finance/accounting-related responsibilities may involve some or all of the following: assist with set-up of budgets and assignment of costs in the awards module, monitor income and expense budgets, reconcile financial entries, assist in the production of financial reports and invoices, review internal and partner financial reports, and communicate financial information to project managers.

Administrative support may involve various office tasks including some or all of the following: assist with set up and maintenance of award master files, work with staff on public or private-funded projects, work with vendors, draft correspondence and secure internal approvals, maintain tracking systems. S/he provides efficient and timely action on administrative matters, prepares correspondence and materials, and may communicate on behalf of the supervisor with internal and external sources, including staff, partners, and donors.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

  • Ensures TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met.
  • Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provides support related to relevant field.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices and regulations.
  • Experience using automated accounting systems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • May require working knowledge of grants accounting.
  • May require fluency in a specific foreign language(s) to support global operations.
