Introduction:

This is a full-time position with American Bird Conservancy in The Plains, VA. The Grants and Finance Administrator for American Bird Conservancy is responsible for an array of grant, contract, and financial functions, including: helping to prepare monthly financial reports, managing federal and private grants, ensuring compliance with federal and state grant regulations and reporting, preparing and maintaining schedules for the yearly audit, helping in the preparation of annual budgets and cash flow projections, and other duties as assigned.

This position requires a broad knowledge of all ABC programs and structure. Work requires initiative, flexibility, accuracy, and attention to detail. The Grants and Finance Administrator reports to the Vice President of Operations.

Primary Duties:

  • Manage ABC’s federal and state agency grants including generating grant agreements, corresponding with agency contacts and staff, and developing tracking systems.

  • Work with the Vice President of Operations to prepare monthly financial reports for the Board of Directors and Management Committee.

  • Coordinate grant reports to agencies (both narrative and financial) and ensure compliance with federal and state grant regulations. The Administrator will be responsible for monthly and quarterly invoicing.

  • Prepare and maintain financial schedules for the yearly audit and tax return.

  • Assist the Vice President of Operations in the preparation of annual budgets and monthly cash flow projections.

    Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business or related field and at least three years work experience in finance and managing grants or other appropriate combination of education and experience. Experience in federal grants management preferred.

  • Experience with accounting software and fund accounting preferred. Proficiency with office computers a must. Excel and Word experience a must.

  • Ability to work independently, efficiently, accurately, and keep deadlines.

  • Ability to work with a wide range of people at all levels.

  • Good organizational and administrative skills.

  • Good communication skills, in person and in writing.

  • Willingness to travel to the Washington, DC office on occasion.
