TEP is recruiting a Landscape and Estates Manager to be based in its Gateshead office. The role would suit a recent graduate or those with some industry experience, and all necessary training will be provided by TEP. This is an exciting consultancy opportunity which offers a chance to develop TEP’s landscape and estate management services in the North East, working on extremely stimulating and challenging projects and furthering your own career and expertise in a supportive multidisciplinary practice.  The position is full time and permanent.

The Role

Our Land Management Team play a critical role in TEP’s overall delivery of the Homes England Estates Management Services (a four year framework which runs from 2019-2023).  Homes England are responsible for an extensive and diverse portfolio of land across England. Sites range from greenfield land, to woodlands, brownfield land, and derelict building complexes such as former hospitals. The role will entail regular site visits to assess, identify and mitigate any hazards, managing maintenance contracts, and procuring and monitoring works identified through the site inspections. Part of the role is to undertake site access and waterbody surveys utilising the bespoke Procura system to protect the client from Commons Applications and to fulfil their Duty of Care to those that may access the sites. There may also be opportunities to work on management plans to support development and ensure long term management of green spaces and their benefits to people and wildlife.  The site portfolio is continually changing with new sites being acquired that require prompt assessment with subsequent de-risking strategies put in place and managed.

In addition the Team are responsible for the production of Landscape and Habitat Management Plans, Open Space Assessments, Green Infrastructure Strategies, and Endowment Calculations as part of land transfer agreements. Once established, the Landscape and Estates Manager may support these roles and work on cross-disciplinary projects across the Design, Ecology, Planning and Historic Environment Teams.

The successful applicant will be largely, but not solely, working on projects for Homes England.  Most of the sites managed from the Gateshead office are in the North East but a number are located in the Yorkshire/Derbyshire area.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Landscape management or other appropriate environmental qualification;
  • Awareness of local and national environmental and planning policy;
  • Ability to undertake site visits, occasionally requiring overnight stays away from home;
  • A high level of verbal and written communication skills including report writing and presentations;
  • Ability to independently manage workloads to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget;
  • Computer literacy in MS Office, Excel (especially), Word and Outlook;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Able to work well alone and also as part of a team; and
  • Full driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Understanding and/or experience of managing contracts and contractors;
  • Skills in any of CAD, QGIS, Photoshop or CorelDraw;
  • Student or Graduate membership of a relevant professional institute (such as LI, IEMA, IOSH), and/or working towards a professional qualification.
