During preconstruction and construction phase, the Graduate will work in the PPD team assisting the project managers and assistant project managers to deliver the projects.

The Graduate’s key responsibilities comprise the following:

  • Assisting the project managers and assistant PM’s with day to day tasks on the round 1 projects.
  • Project management and construction management in accordance with Asset Delivery processes and procedures.
  • Definition and coordination of any preliminary engineering during preconstruction phase
  • Assisting the project manager project through financial close process
  • Assisting with the construction contract tendering, negotiation and administration
  • Assisting with cost estimating, budget preparation, reporting and control
  • Assisting with schedule estimating, schedule preparation, reporting and control
  • Liaise and cooperate with other functional and regional teams
  • Liaise and cooperate with external parties – banks, independent engineers, contractors, government bodies etc.
  • Ability to work with the electrical grid utility to develop transmission grid connection plans supervise grid studies and secure grid connection agreements.
  • Significant autonomy in work, but a strong reporting and approval process using Mainstream’s Asset Delivery procedures and process (this is based on PMI® PMBOK®).
  • Interaction with the relevant in-house teams – Solar analysis, GIS, engineering, construction.
  • Participate in company knowledge sharing groups which focus on sharing of expertise globally.

Education and Experience

  • Degree in Engineering (civil, electrical, or mechanical), Energy or Environment
  • Organised and able to manage their own work load
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Candidates should be comfortable presenting
  • Candidates should be capable of managing internal and external resources
  • Ability to use Microsoft software as well as specialist software packages such as GIS, AutoCAD, MS Project and SharePoint
  • The candidate must be fluent in both Afrikaans and English; fluency in other languages is considered an advantage.

Accountabilities

  • Project safety – be the safety leader implementing and enforcing Mainstream’s SHEQ processes and procedures
  • Monitor daily activities at the construction sites, using this data to trend and develop detailed forecasts and ensure that corrective actions are done timely
  • Overall project leadership through the relationship with your contractors and consultants

Location

The position will be based in Mainstream’s Cape Town Office with travel to site and Johannesburg as required.
