Focus Ecology is a small independent ecological consultancy firm based in Worcester.  We have a wide range of practical experience from major infrastructure contracts to smaller projects for private individuals across the UK.  The company ethos forges the highest standards of professional scientific practice with a ‘best value’ approach for our clients.

Our core area of expertise is in the production of specialist ecological reports and providing advice to complement and support planning applications.  Our services include ‘baseline’ ecological appraisals, biodiversity assessments, Phase I and Phase II botanical surveys and protected species surveys including bats, great crested newts, badgers, and a full range of other protected fauna as required.

We are looking for a Graduate Ecologist to join our team. You will work on a range of ecological projects across the UK, requiring a mix of field and office-based skills. We can offer the successful candidate a full time, 6-month contract (1 April – 27 September 2013) with the possibility of permanent employment. Benefits include twelve days annual leave (plus public holidays) and ‘on the job’ training.

Salary: £12,000 pro rata.

Essential requirements:

  • Relevant degree
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Survey experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • botanical (e.g. Phase I, NVC, Phase II)
    • bats
    • great crested newts
  • Basic understanding of the planning system and wildlife legislation
  • Full driving license and access to own vehicle
  • IEEM Graduate membership (or eligibility for joining)
  • Willing to work anti-social hours and stay away from home as required

Advantageous:

  • Previous professional survey experience
  • Protected species licenses
  • Additional survey skills (e.g. birds, reptiles, invertebrates, otter, water vole, badger)
  • Masters / post-graduate degree in a relevant subject.
