Commencing your ecological career at Umwelt includes the opportunity to gain experience in many diverse areas, including flora and fauna field surveys, vegetation mapping, nest box installation, ecological monitoring and reporting. You will be mentored and supervised by Senior Ecologists who have a wealth of knowledge and experience to impart, and who will provide an encouraging and supportive network.

Essential:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Sciences (Ecology, Botany, Environmental Science etc.);
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and undertaking field work particularly flora and/or fauna survey and assessment;
  • Knowledge of the ecology of NSW generally and the Hunter region and Lower North Coast / Central Coast / Sydney regions specifically;
  • Knowledge of State and Commonwealth environmental, biodiversity and ecological legislation and policy relevant to the NSW region;
  • Capability to implement workplace health and safety requirements;
  • Strong bush navigation skills capability and willingness to work at heights to install nest boxes
  • Willingness to undertake, with appropriate training and support, on-site tree felling supervision roles
  • Sound working knowledge using MS office products;
  • Sound scientific, analytical writing skills for preparing reports and accurate data entry skills;
  • Current Manual Driver’s Licence;
  • Willingness to travel and work throughout NSW and elsewhere regularly and for periods of several weeks on occasion, with appropriate notice.

Desirable:

  • Previous relevant working experience or experience in similar fields (1-2 yrs);
  • Working at heights and nest box installation experience;
  • Demonstrated experience to be able to work within budgets and meet deadlines;
  • Flora survey knowledge and experience
  • Experience in analysing environmental data using current decision support tools, e.g. GIS.
