Change Agents UK is pleased to be working with Opportunity Peterborough and University Centre Peterborough to deliver the Peterborough Graduate Scheme, which forms part of the Peterborough DNA programme. This is one of 12 roles on the Peterborough Graduate Scheme (PGS).

Background

Athene Communications was set up in 2003 with the aim of building a company that is successful and sustainable because it adds value to its:

Clients – through strategic advice and expert day-to-day delivery that drives business success through tailored and compelling communication.

Consultants – by providing both the means to make a living enjoyably and - through the adoption of genuinely friendly working practices - the means to make a life.

Communities – by playing an active role in our communities and giving our consultants the time to do so too because we believe that companies exist to enhance society, not just to make a profit.

Objective

An exciting and challenging project to research best practice in community engagement for housing and renewable energy projects and translate that into a series of deliverable recommendations designed to improve Athene’s outreach and to enhance levels of engagement, particularly with a view to how we use new technologies and social media.

Benefits of this opportunity

The graduate will become familiar with aspects of the planning system in England and with various methods for engaging communities in development projects, including large-scale housing and renewables. There will be an emphasis on researching best practice to understand how best to engage with communities and how to deploy emerging technologies to help people understand the benefits of development and how they can shape the future of their communities. There will also be benefits associated with being part of a marketing and PR company and attendant opportunities to learn about the various communication disciplines required to reach identified audiences across a range of sectors.

Future employment potential

At the end of the placement the graduate will have a good grounding in all aspects of PR and marketing work and specifically in community engagement, allowing them to consider future career opportunities either in agencies or in-house.
