Defra’s Strategy Unit (SU) is looking for a G7 Strategy and Policy Advisor to be part of delivering our Vision of placing strategy and evidence firmly at the centre of all Defra business.  

This is a demanding role and you will be expected to demonstrate all the Defra competencies at G7 level.  Excellent track record of strategy skills, resilience, and ability to be creative, value evidence and deliver excellent analysis of complex issues will be key.

The post holder will have excellent strategy skills.  He or she and will help lead and drive cross-cutting projects within a multidisciplinary team which includes, policy analysts, economists, social researchers and natural scientists.  He or she will be expected to be highly visible and proactive identifying new areas of work and strengthening the team’s analytical and policy capacity within Defra with ample opportunities to work with other government departments to promote Defra’s interests and help deliver our priorities and objectives.

The Strategy Unit has regular and direct exposure to Ministers and senior Managers.  It offers excellent development opportunities including: opportunities to develop and build strong time management skills ( to enable you to contribute flexibly across a number of projects) training to build strategic capability; working in multi-disciplinary teams and the opportunity to turn your analysis into credible strategy developments across the full spectrum of Defra’s interests.
