If you’ve been involved with heading up planning activities for a complex, large-scale programme on a national scale before, you could have what it takes to help shape a change programme at a critical stage – one that’s set to transform the way the country consumes energy.
WHAT IS SMART METERING?
Smart metering is a major programme across government and industry that will help the UK move to a low carbon economy. It involves the installation of smart meters in every home and small business across the country by 2019 – making this change programme the biggest the energy industry has seen for 40 years. Smart meters will enable residents and small businesses to understand their energy consumption, to save energy and to reduce carbon emissions. Smart meters will also form the foundation for smart grids, part of the Coalition Government’s strategy on energy and climate change policy. Your expertise can help this ambitious, high-profile project to succeed.
ABOUT THE ROLE
You will be an experienced Programme Planner, who will play a critical role in the functioning of the PMO, being directly responsible for both detailed and high level planning, together with management of interdependencies and resource requirements. We’ll look to you to develop, maintain and report against a set of detailed programme plans, aligning those plans with industry and other Smart Meters participants. You will manage critical path analysis, the change control process as well as programme risk management. Of course, you won’t be doing this alone, as you’ll be part of the wider PMO and have a team to help you, who will require your leadership and support, plus numerous internal and external stakeholder relationships to manage.
ABOUT YOU
Having worked in a Programme Management Office of a large and complex programme before, you will be ready for this key, high-profile role. You will have extensive hands-on experience of programme planning, ‘Prince 2’ and ‘Managing Successful Programmes’ methodologies. You will be familiar with public sector programme governance processes and best practice programme management techniques. You will have the written and oral skills to communicate complex issues clearly and simply and you will have the inter-personal skills and confidence to build constructive relationships with a range of work-stream leads and stakeholders, plus the credibility to earn their respect. You will be delivery focussed and have the determination to meet milestones and you will be keen to seize this opportunity to have a lasting effect on global sustainability.
