Seeking Senior Portfolio Managers (i.e. Global Campaign Strategists) for the Climate & Energy Campaign.

Note: This role is labeled for internal purposes “Senior Portfolio Manager”, though titles used externally may vary depending on the skills and focus of the specific candidate. Compensation will depend on the work location and the specific grading to be determined after the recruitment is complete.

We are now seeking outstanding Senior Portfolio Managers (i.e. Global Campaign Strategists) for our Climate & Energy campaign. This is a rare opportunity to apply all your energy, experience and intellect to a truly worthwhile challenge. Change is a constant at Greenpeace, and the rapid pace of change in the world must be reflected in how we work, where our staff is based and how we plan and implement our campaigns. We are re-focusing our work in key emerging areas.

Working for Greenpeace International's Global Campaign Leader for Climate & Energy, you would identify new opportunities for campaigns, prepare the groundwork for national offices to take action in new areas, and intensively mentor and collaborate with national offices. You would play a key role in enabling Climate & Energy campaigners, mobilizers, communicators and fundraisers around the world to create a green and peaceful future.

The Global Campaign Leader will be looking for excellent strategists with a mix of skills and expertise, including but not limited to communications, mobilization, campaigning, investigations, research, economy, and legal. Job description

Guide, inspire, and support National & Regional Office project teams in all phases of the campaign project lifecycle to deliver high quality, strategic and impactful projects in the Greenpeace Global Programme. Provide high-level expertise and facilitate/foster skill/information sharing, collaboration, best practices, lessons learned and innovation between projects, National & Regional Offices, and external stakeholders.

Main responsibilities
1. Strategy
Contribute to the development and realization of the Climate & Energy strategy in order that Greenpeace achieves organizational goals and objectives as outlined in the (interim) Global Framework.
2. Advice
• Advise the Global Campaign Leader on the overall strategic orientation of the campaign strategy on an ongoing basis and contribute to development of long term strategy through the Long Term Global Framework.
• Advise the Global Campaign Leader on projects being pitched by National & Regional Offices or clusters in order that decisions can be made on the composition of the Climate & Energy Unit.
3. Campaign Portfolio leadership and management
• Lead and develop high level expertise related to one or more of the strategic drivers of the campaign, in order to enhance the overall strategy. Identify strategic opportunities; provide guidance and encouragement to National & Regional Offices in order to seize them.
• Lead in an environment of change where innovation and sharing of ideas and best practices is encouraged, in line with Greenpeace's values, in order to achieve results in a changing internal and external environment.
• Monitor delivery of the campaign strategy for the assigned portfolio, encourage and share innovative approaches and troubleshoot as needed to overcome challenges to implementation.
4. Best practice and knowledge management
• Keep up to date with best practices within area of expertise, foster innovation and inspiring examples and create opportunities related to the strategic area/s of expertise, drawing on examples from both inside and outside of Greenpeace, in order to develop expertise and new ways of working for Greenpeace globally.
• Facilitate expertise transfer and development (to National & Regional Offices and respective projects) in new areas as required by campaign strategy. Develop training and identify skill share opportunities to build capacity and further develop expertise.
5. Stakeholder Relationships
• Initiate, lead and manage relationships with influential thought leaders in particular related to area of expertise and represent Greenpeace in different fora as appropriate.
• Build good working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders within as well as outside of Greenpeace in order to represent Greenpeace’s interests and to realize effective cooperation and sharing of knowledge.
6. Supporting National & Regional Offices
• Engage with National & Regional Offices and provide high-level expertise related to one or more of the strategic drivers affecting the campaign strategy, enhancing their capacity to deliver high quality, strategic and impactful projects in the Global Programme. Encourage collaboration among National & Regional Offices and seek synergies between projects in order to contribute to step change.
• Support and advise National & Regional Offices through all phases of campaign/ project lifecycle – project pitching, development, implementation, and monitoring & evaluation in order to ensure the Climate & Energy Unit delivers to its strategy and objectives. Encourage and promote a risk-taking approach in order to test new ideas and innovate.
7. Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning
• Support evaluations led by National & Regional Offices in conjunction with the Performance Accountability & Learning unit and ensure that lessons learned and management action are communicated and followed up on.
• Support National & Regional Offices in developing fast feedback loops to improve ongoing projects and increase responsiveness.

Skills and Qualifications
• A track record of delivering ambitious campaigns or projects, with more than 7 years experience at senior level
• High level expertise in one or more strategic areas identified for the basket
• Experience in working with multi-cultural senior staff and teams and across borders.
• Experience in implementing and bringing about significant positive changes in work culture, practices and performance.
• Exceptional influencing skills, and strong negotiation, conflict resolution, communication and presentation skills.
• Excellent project management skills
• Excellent skills in capacity-building, training & knowledge transfer
• Experience in building exceptional teams.
• Knowledge of communications best practices
• Fluent written and spoken English
• Experience in working to very tight deadlines and under stressful conditions.
• Flexible, resilient and organised
• Ability to travel
