The Governance Coordinator is a high level administrative position that works closely with the Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel and both the Greenpeace, Inc. and Greenpeace Fund, Inc. boards. This position will serve as the key link between the senior management of the organization and the two boards. The Governance Coordinator will also be the key link between voting members and the Greenpeace, Inc. board. The Governance Coordinator will play the crucial role of working with the board to create and manage the board development strategy, as well as the board’s fundraising efforts. This position will also manage board communication with voting members, who elect the board.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the chief contact person between both Greenpeace boards and senior management of the organization;
  • Advise board members on key governance issues;
  • Assist the board in reviewing governance guidelines;
  • Assist with board member recruitment and orientation;
  • Advise the board chair on any committee appointments;
  • Manage board election process
  • Stay on top of governance and board management trends;
  • Assist in drafting key board documents;
  • Keep organizational records, such as articles, bylaws, and minutes;
  • Coordinate the submission of materials to board members prior to board meetings.
  • Provide logistical assistance for board meeting preparation and planning events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience;
  • Basic knowledge of the laws affecting the organization and non-profit organizations;
  • Understanding of governance issues;
  • Solid facilitation and consensus-building skills;
  • Strong communication and administrative skills;
  • Ability to make things happen;
  • Ability to build trusting relationships with board members;
  • Political savvy to help the Executive Director strategically prepare areas of discussion;
  • Attention to detail, protocol, and people dynamics;
  • Prior experience working with boards preferred;
  • Proactive and service-oriented but easy going personality;
  • Ability to manage up;
  • Consistency and a high degree of quality in work;
  • Ease in getting along with team members at all levels;
  • Curiosity and a constant interest in learning;
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, and diplomacy;
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team;
  • Commitment to environmental issues
