The Gopher Tortoise Biologist performs long-term gopher tortoise life history research and monitoring of gopher tortoise population status at the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center (CSJFTC).  The Gopher Tortoise Biologist is the main point of contact for all activities that involve gopher tortoises and listed fauna at the CSJFTC.  S/he provides data, maps, and recommendations for biological and environment assessments at the CSJFTC and to other agencies as approved by the Mississippi Military Department (MMD).  The Gopher Tortoise Biologist represents the Conservancy’s views on the rarity and viability of species and attends conferences and meetings to discuss or present information from the CSJFTC as appropriate.
