Organization and Project Summary:
Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters Institute (WLCVI) protects public health and natural resources in Wisconsin by enhancing the capacity of the conservation movement. The WLCV Institute works to connect conservation-minded citizens with the policy making process through education, advocacy, public opinion research, and the implementation of voter participation techniques. The Global Warming Organizer will work to build support for federal global warming legislation through League of Conservation Voters Education Fund’s (LCVEF) The Heat Is On Campaign (
www.heatison.org).

The Global Warming Organizer will work closely with WLCVI’s Program Director and LCVEF staff to coordinate state-level activities, conduct outreach to opinion leaders, community leaders, and business leaders, generate earned media, and engage voters and the congressional delegation about the urgency and importance of global warming.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Global Warming Organizer is responsible for understanding the political and policy goals of WLCVI and The Heat Is On campaign and translating those goals into winning grassroots strategies.  Those strategies include:

  • Creating and implementing a field plan to influence members of Congress;
  • Building working relationships with diverse allies and important constituencies;
  • Engaging citizens in the policy-making process;
  • Developing local leaders;
  • Educating elected officials;
  • Working to earn media coverage;
  • Coordinating with local groups and building long-term, local relationships;
  • Communicating directly and indirectly with members of Congress;
  • Managing volunteers.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Experience working in groups or with coalitions;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Wisconsin political landscape and Wisconsin progressive issues, organizations and leaders, or demonstrated ability to quickly assess landscape and develop relationship with key leaders and partners;
  • Commitment to the goals and vision of Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters Institute and The Heat Is On campaign;
  • Strong leadership skills;
  • Understanding of and experience with organizing and campaign work;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, meet deadlines and yet be part of a team working towards a common goal.

Working Conditions:

  • Fulltime, limited term position through May 30, 2010, with the potential to continue
  • Based in Green Bay
  • Moderate in-state travel within WI
  • Some evening and weekend work required
  • Fast-paced and requires juggling multi projects and meeting deadlines
  • Reports to WLCVI Program Director

Salary Range:
Competitive salary, commensurate with experience.
