 Greenpeace is currently seeking a strategic and dynamic project manager to lead our Global Seafood Markets Campaigns Team.  The Global Seafood Markets Project  Leader will develop and lead global projects to transform global tuna markets in support of Greenpeace’s campaign to end overfishing.  This is a great opportunity to work with an amazing team of diverse professionals and address threats to our oceans. The person hired for this position will help set and implement the strategic direction of one of the largest environmental organizations in the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  Project Team Leadership

Build and manage an active cross programmatic (campaigns, research, communications, digital, outreach, actions) team worldwide, including overall coordination of team activities, and coaching and mentoring of team members; Take responsibility for campaign delivery, including final decisions on outputs to ensure integrated activities that are aimed at achieving campaign objectives; Participate in the Core Team for the overall Overfishing Strategy, contributing to the overall management and implementation of the wider strategy.

2.  Coordination & Communications

Build & maintain relationships with key stakeholders in NROs (National & Regional Offices) central to the implementation of the campaign; Liaise with NRO Program Directors to ensure delivery of committed staff and resources; Nurture internal networks, solve problems, and ensure good communication within the project team.

3.  Staff Management

Manage staff seconded to the Project from NROs, including performance management. 

4.  Global Strategy Development

Lead ongoing development of the Seafood Markets strategy & the strategic direction of the wider overfishing campaign; Keep abreast of the external debate and trends in order to identify campaign/public engagement opportunities, and ensure the campaign strategy has realistic objectives whilst maintaining viability and potential.

 5. Fundraising

Advise and assist in the development of funding proposals for major donors and foundations, and subsequent campaign reporting and representation, liaising with major donors, foundations and other supporters of Greenpeace work.

 6. Budget Management

Oversee the development and ongoing management of the project budget, including compliance with organizational financial management standards. 

 7. Reporting and Evaluation

Overseeevaluation and report on progress of the project, and continuously monitor the achievements and ever changing environment against the project strategy and goals.

 8. Maintain external contacts

Regularly liaise with key allies and opponents (political fora, industry, NGOs, government, public, and media) as appropriate.

 Skills required / qualifications

  Required:

  • University degree
  • Minimum 7 years experience with public interest organizations
  • Project management skills and experience including proven ability to effectively adjust plans to rapidly changing circumstances
  • Extensive working knowledge of marine conservation and fisheries issues
  • Experience managing diverse, geographically distributed teams
  • Understanding of the roles that science, politics, economics, industry, media and social change play and their strategic implications for campaigning
  • Ability to operate and lead under challenging situations
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Experience with budget planning and management
