The Global Project Leader will lead a comprehensive expert analysis of tuna fisheries in the Western and Central Pacific. The results of this analysis will be the basis for defining options for how fisheries can be made more viable and generate greater benefits for countries who are signatories to the Parties of the Nauru Agreement. This one-year project will provide the information, analysis and connections needed to implement meaningful and sustainable changes in the way tuna fisheries are managed, and will shape a more sustainable future for the oceans.
The primary duties of the Global Project Leader will be to build and oversee a first class team of experts (staff or consultants), to conduct a full in-depth analysis of Parties to the Nauru agreement tuna fisheries, focused specifically on the ecological, economic, enforcement and political dimensions; synthesize the information; develop options for interventions by CI and partners; and engage potential partners and donors that will enable the implementation of feasible options. The Global Project Leader will conduct his/her duties in close collaboration and coordination with CI staff in the Moore Center for Science and Oceans and Asia-Pacific Field Division and ensure the proposed strategy is consistent with CI’s engagement in the Pacific Oceanscape and the FAO/GEF Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction project.
