The University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Science, Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, wishes to appoint a Global Policy Engagement Manager for the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) from 1 February 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The position is for the period 1 February 2014 – 31 December 2015.
Job content
The Global Policy Engagement Manager coordinates the implementation of the CCAFS global policy engagement strategy under the supervision of the CCAFS Head of Research. Core functions include: management of selected CCAFS external partnerships at the global level; management of global projects on policy research and on engagement for policy impact; management of global-level capacity enhancement projects; production of non-academic policy research outputs and communications; co-management of CCAFS inputs to global processes and events; participation in the teamwork of the CCAFS Coordinating Unit, including close liaison with the CCAFS Communications and Knowledge Manager, team meetings, budget management, monitoring and annual reporting.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- University degree at Master’s level
- At least 3 years experience in development programming or policy research (in social or natural sciences)
- Working knowledge of climate change, agriculture and/or food security
- Project management skills, including experience in budget management and reporting
- Facilitation skills, including experience in running multi-stakeholder meetings
- Demonstrable ability to translate scientific findings to policy contexts
- High level of self-motivation and independence
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Work experience in Africa, Asia and/or Latin America
- Willingness to work in a global, diverse, multinational team and travel internationally
Desirable:
- Proficiency in other languages than English, particularly French and Spanish
- Skills in basic quantitative analysis and presentation (e.g. Excel)
- Skills in analyzing and communicating issues of gender and social difference
- Experience in working with private sector and/or farmers’ organisations
Terms of employment
Working hours are 37 hours per week. Employment and remuneration will be according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The post will either be office-based in Copenhagen, or alternatively, subject to agreement, working from home anywhere in the European Union (Edinburgh or Rome would provide higher levels of face-to-face contact).
