Description
The Global Network/Systems Engineer will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing the Global Wide Area Network (GWAN), Wireless Network and Local Area Networks (LAN) required to support the Global IUCN Secretariat including the IUCN Headquarters (HQ), out-posted, regional, country offices and special events and Congresses.

This position will also be responsible for planning, acquisition, implementation, maintenance and administration globally of the GWAN Infrastructure (Service provider, Routers, Firewall, Wifi, Network Accelerators, VPN, etc…), maintain and review standards, setups and policies for LAN equipment (Routers, Switches). Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements of IUCN. Participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Information Management Services
- Develop and contribute to the development of long-term strategies and policies for Networking in the Union in support of programme implementation, HQ and regional operations, Commissions and special events.
- Plan, manage and provide support services related to the GWAN Infrastructure and applications (monitoring, accelerating), operations, standard configurations and special software set-ups, training and trouble shooting for IUCN HQ and remote locations.
- Work with the Union Applications and ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) Teams to ensure that existing and new global applications run effectively. Participate in the architecture design of global applications to ensure efficient operations over the GWAN.
- Evaluate needs and service efficiency and effectiveness as part of on-going IT management. Interface with local IT personnel to develop high performance solutions in order that IUCN can benefit from productivity gains offered by technology.

System Administration
- Plan, organize and manage the network (hardware and software) infrastructure for the global secretariat.
- Plan, design, set up and maintain IUCN Infrastructure, WAN and LAN, including hardware, software, backup, anti-virus ; and cabling, hubs, NIC, NIU, servers, desktop, PCs, laptops, routers, firewall, modems, remote users, and printers.
- Review and test new systems, tools and services for integration in IUCN IT systems and services operations.
- Ensure that IUCN’s network is compliant with all policies.
- Ensure security threats can be identified and stopped.

This position can be based in one of our following locations:

- San Jose, Costa Rica
- Quito, Ecuador
- Malaga, Spain
- Gland, Switzerland
REQUIREMENTS
  • University degree or equivalent in Computer Networking field.

• Minimum 6-8 years’ experience in deploying and operating global wide area networks in international environment using MPLS and Internet (VPN) for global connectivity.

• Experience in Standard Configuration and Patch Management for Networking equipment.

• Strong knowledge HP, Cisco, Riverbed, Fortinet equipment (formal certification on one of these vendor equipment a definitive plus)

• Good knowledge of deploying global WiFi networks using Fortinet.

• Good knowledge of network monitoring tool (e.g. Solarwinds)

• Experience managing Microsoft OS and different applications, Active Directory, Exchange, SCCM, SCOM.

• Good knowledge of VMware platform.

• Strong problem analysis and solving skills.

• Experience in managing multiple parties across multiple IT disciplines including Project Managers and third party vendors.

• Fluent in English. Professional working proficiency in French or Spanish a strong advantage, any other language a plus.

• Due to the global nature of the IUCN GWAN it can be necessary to work outside regular business hours and/or also on weekends and to travel to some offices of IUCN.
