Purpose of the job

To lead the development and delivery of global strategies to achieve Greenpeace’s ambitious engagement aims:

-      To inspire, mobilise and engage tens of millions of people to campaign alongside us.

-      To reach and empower a wider segment of society to be directly involved in our work.

-      To deepen supporters engagement with, and contributions to, our campaigns and vision.

To empower and enable our national and regional offices to develop and implement brave public-engagement campaigning strategies to achieve agreed engagement, mobilisation and fundraising goals.

To build, promote and protect Greenpeace’s global identity and profile.

 
Main responsibilities

  1. Lead the integration of Greenpeace’s global Communications, Mobilisation, Digital and Growth strategies into a single engagement strategy to inspire, enable, connect and expand our work campaigning with people.
  1. Support national and regional offices to develop and deliver ambitious engagement strategies and to build the required capacity and expertise.
  1. Ensure greater understanding of our supporter audiences (using a full range of audience research, listening & segmentation tools) and that campaign development is informed by supporter consultation.
  1. Lead the global organisation to develop and introduce inspiring and relevant journeys for all supporter audiences (staff, volunteers, donors, activists etc.) to increase engagement levels.
  1. Ensure the promotion and protection of Greenpeace’s brand and visual identity. Ensure consistency of media output through distributed “Communications Hubs” alongside our national activities, setting and monitoring core standards and protocols. 
  1. Establish, monitor & assess engagement KPIs, and ensure the adaptation of strategies as needed to ensure delivery of our goals.  Proactively identify challenges to implementation of the global strategy and trouble-shoot as needed, providing senior leadership and strategic advice to resolve issues.
  1. Develop and manage networks of expertise throughout the organisation; scan for new trends in mobilisation and supporter engagement.
  1. Advise Global Campaign Leaders (GCLs) on the opportunities for engagement within their campaign area and assist in securing specific expertise as needed to realise engagement potential, from within or outside Greenpeace. 
  1. Lead the development, and ensure the adoption of, shared infrastructure throughout the organisation to support ambitious engagement strategies such as a common web platform, fundraising tools and public engagement mechanisms.
  1. Manage high performing teams of ‘engagement strategists and managers’, ensuring that staff is encouraged to achieve their full potential.


Skills required & qualifications:

Proven track record of bringing about significant positive change through public engagement in a leadership position operating in a multi-cultural context.

Strong understanding of supporter/customer relationship management.

Relevant direct experience and proven track record in developing and delivering multiple engagement strategies and ambitious results (communications, mobilisation, fundraising etc.).

Experience in operating strategically and goal orientated in fast changing environments.

Outstanding interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills. The ability to influence change without authority and to foster collaboration across functions in pursuit of agreed goals.

Proven track record of leading and managing cross-functional and multi-cultural teams of senior managers in global organisation.

Highly developed analytical skills and a strong understanding of business, media, and financial planning.
