Description

Oil Change International (OCI) is seeking a Global Campaigns Director to support OCI’s global campaign areas (currently global policy, public finance, and fossil fuel industry) in creating and implementing aggressive, effective global campaigns to achieve a managed phase-out of fossil fuels in line with climate goals and climate justice. This position will coordinate our cross-cutting international strategies to move governments and institutions away from permitting and financing oil and gas extraction. This position will work in partnership with the Regional Programs Director.

Shortly after the Paris Agreement was signed, OCI released groundbreaking analysis showing that, even if global coal use is phased out overnight, the oil and gas in already-operating fields around the world would push us well above 1.5°C of warming. The implications for climate leaders are clear: Meeting the Paris goals will require stopping the expansion of the oil and gas industry and planning for a just and equitable phase-out of fossil fuel production. An increasing number of countries and public financial institutions are beginning to act towards these aims – for example, by banning new oil and gas licenses or ending finance for oil and gas projects. The oil and gas industry is also facing increasing challenges to its credibility and social license, creating new opportunities for strategic campaign efforts that can help accelerate the shift away from fossil fuels whilst ensuring a just transition.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a strong people manager with experience building campaign teams, supporting staff development, driving strategic visioning, and fostering a healthy, equitable, and sustainable team culture. This role will be internally focused, helping to make other staff on the team shine and encouraging others to take on public facing leadership roles, rather than being a primary external representative for our global campaigns.

The Global Campaigns Director is responsible for supporting Oil Change International’s three global campaign areas (public finance, global policy, industry) in delivering meaningful and significant advances in global policy change and challenging the fossil fuel industry. The Global Campaigns Director will support the campaign managers in developing strategies on global policy, public finance for fossil fuels, and fossil fuel industry-oriented campaigns as well as supporting coordination across these efforts. The Global Campaigns Director will directly manage at least 4 people and be a member of the organization’s senior leadership team.
