We are seeking an experienced policy advocate to lead and coordinate strategic advocacy in regional and international policy processes to secure improved conservation outcomes for birds and their habitats.
 
The post-holder will support the implementation of the BirdLife International Global Strategy by: 
  1. Coordinating engagement by the BirdLife Secretariat and BirdLife Partnership in the biodiversity-related conventions, in particular the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the development and implementation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework; 
  2. Leading the BirdLife Partnership’s engagement with the CBD, including conducting policy analyses, developing policy positions, representing the partnership and, as appropriate, providing strategic support for national level implementation;
  3. Working with the Head of Policy, Global Policy Division and Programme Coordinators, contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of policy advocacy strategies to influence priorities, policies and legislation for the benefit of bird and biodiversity conservation;
  4. Working with Partners, regional secretariat and communications staff, raising awareness of, widening the engagement in and developing capacity for policy and advocacy initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have excellent knowledge of international environmental issues, processes, institutions and treaties, especially the CBD and others concerning bird and biodiversity conservation, and a proven track record of high level involvement in programme management, policy formulation and advocacy. They will possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including an ability to explain and advocate complex issues to a wide range of audiences. They will be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, and network, motivate and collaborate with others across the globe with cultural sensitivity.
