BirdLife International is a global Partnership of NGOs working together for bird and biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

We are seeking to recruit an energetic and experienced individual to co-ordinate our international work in biodiversity policy, and to support the policy and advocacy efforts of BirdLife Partners. Reporting to the Head of Policy within the Science, Policy and Information Division, the post-holder will lead on BirdLife’s well-established engagement with the Convention on Biological Diversity, including implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the CBD Secretariat in 2010.

The ideal candidate will have 

  • An advanced degree in a relevant subject

  • An excellent knowledge of international environmental issues, processes, institutions and treaties, especially the CBD

  • Practical understanding of international and national policy and advocacy work in a conservation/development setting

  • Substantial work experience in conservation and/or sustainable development, with a proven track record of high level involvement in programme management and in policy formulation, analysis and advocacy

  • The ability to network, motivate and collaborate with others, with cultural sensitivity

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Fluency in English is essential and in one or more other UN languages highly desirable. The post will require considerable international travel.

This is a key role within the policy team and an excellent opportunity for career development, building on BirdLife’s strong reputation for constructive and effective policy work that is based on sound science. 

Cambridge salary in the range £29,000-31,000 (plus generous pension contribution).
