PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Glacier Field Representative is the outreach and organizing position in the Glacier Field Office (GFO). Primary responsibilities are to build and organize support for GFO’s programmatic park protection priorities and NPCA’s national priorities in targeted gateway communities; to identify and engage local stakeholders throughout the U.S.-side Crown of the Continent region; and to mobilize NPCA members and local and regional activists to take action on behalf of Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. This includes identifying and strengthening park protection allies in gateway communities and closely coordinating those efforts with the Glacier Program Manager and Northern Rockies Regional Director, as well as developing targeted political assets. In the course of implementing outreach efforts, this position will take the lead on select park protection issues. The representative will also work closely with NPCA staff to grow local financial support through identification and cultivation of major and institutional donors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.   Community Outreach/Organizing
Following NPCA’s national, regional, and Glacier strategic plans, work with the Glacier Program Manager and Northern Rockies Regional Director to prioritize organizing opportunities around both systemic and park-specific issues, maximizing efforts to identify and engage local park stakeholders -- including other organizations, local businesses, key local citizens, other targeted constituencies and decision makers -- in a working relationship to further positive park protection efforts and expand NPCA’s efforts to grow new and diverse advocates for park protection. Identify and cultivate ally relationships/coalitions with like-valued and non-traditional partners. Focus collaborative energy toward developing political assets that will further NPCA’s strategic plans. Serve as NPCA contact with other organizers working in and around Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. The organizing work will be accomplished through one on one and small group meetings via phone and internet, extensive time organizing in the field, presentations, and outings & events. (50% of time)

2. Community Education
Seek opportunities to present both Glacier National Park and NPCA’s mission and strategic goals to a wide variety of stakeholders, organizations and organizing targets. Attend meetings of targeted constituencies, organize and host public events, give or organize public presentations and educational forums, secure media opportunities, conduct outreach and education using all forms of electronic media and devise and implement other forms of community education that promote and advance park protection and park funding, and the park’s value to sustainable local economies and ecosystem integrity. Develop and present park-based climate and conservation programs and materials in the Crown region. Introduce NPCA and Glacier Field Office mission and values to a broader public, and represent the organization as a non-partisan and involved community leader. (20% of time)


3. Communications
Work with Program Manager and NRRO team to develop a set of informational tools, including PowerPoint presentations, flyers, handouts, web-alerts, and short reports for public outreach and education on strategic Waterton-Glacier park protection and funding issues.  Help design and implement a media strategy, and provide materials for NPCA publications in furtherance of park protection, park funding, policy leadership, and ally development goals. (20% of time)

4. Development
Work with Glacier Program Manager, NRRO Development and Regional Directors to identify and cultivate new financial supporters of NPCA and our work through events, one on one meetings and outings. (10% of time)

Other Functions: 
This position is part of the Northern Rockies Regional Office team, and requires participation in regular staff meetings, regional and national staff retreats, and other relevant meetings as identified. Travel is a significant requirement of the job. Evening meetings are frequent and some work over weekends is required.
     
TOUR OF DUTY:  9:00 to 5:00, Monday – Friday

SCOPE OF POSITION:   Position is based in Whitefish, MT. Significant travel to park gateway communities to work in person with local park allies and grassroots supporters. Occasional out of region travel will be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Commitment to protecting and restoring America’s national park system;
• Ability to travel and spend time in rural park gateway communities;
• Ability to successfully work with folks with different viewpoints and values;
• Commitment to seeking innovative approaches to solving park protection and funding issues;
• Comfort with face to face, in the field engagement and conversations with diverse stakeholders;
• Demonstrated ability to work with a diversity of individuals and organizations;
• Demonstrated ability and to work in a team environment and to build coalitions with key allies;
• Demonstrated ability to execute development and public campaign events;
• Demonstrated experience designing, coordinating and implementing environmental or other progressive campaigns;
• Strong self-starter with the ability to work independently;
• Strong planner and organizer, with ability to problem-solve and manage multiple projects simultaneously;
• Strong communicator (written, verbal, public), with ability to work with members, volunteers, public, senior management, decision makers
• Basic computer skills – proficiency with MS Word required,; PowerPoint, social media and Website maintenance preferred;
• BA or BS preferred;
• Ability to work occasional weekends and travel extensively.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND DEXTERITY:  Up to 25% travel time, subsisting in rural environments, general office work
