GIS/Remote Sensing InternshipLOCATION: Great Plains Regional Office, Bismarck, North Dakota INTERNSHIP START DATE: June/July 2011 INTERNSHIP DURATION: 12 to 14 Months SALARY: $1,800 per month PRIMARY FUNCTION: The GIS/RS Intern will participate in the development of GIS-based, habitat conservation targeting models and the development and quality control of wetland delineation projects requiring interpretation of aerial photography. The GIS/RS Intern will be responsible for maintenance of ArcSDE geo-databases (SQL Server) and cartographic development of a diverse array of mapping products required by biologists, engineers, and administrators in the Great Plains Regional Office (GPRO). The GIS/RS Intern will be expected to meet project deadlines and communicate independently and effectively with GPRO staff. Some fieldwork, primarily ground-truthing satellite imagery is required. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in GIS, remote sensing. Candidates with degrees in geography, conservation, natural resources or biology with significant coursework in GIS (9+hrs) and/or remote sensing are also strongly encouraged to apply. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Proficiency with ArcGIS and Microsoft Office software required. Proficiency with ERDAS Imagine, Definiens (eCognition) software and the R statistical software package preferred. Those with interest in object-based image analysis or conducting land-use surveys from small, fixed-wing aircraft will be given special consideration.
