Description

We’re looking for a GIS Technician with a passion for the environment to join our growing GIS team.

Middlemarch Environmental is an award-winning natural environment consultancy that has recently embarked on an exciting period of strategic growth. Headquartered in Coventry and with regional teams across the UK, Middlemarch provides nationwide ecological, arboricultural and biodiversity services, as well as supporting clients with innovative landscape design, GIS and nature-based solutions.

Middlemarch has a bold ambition to be the environment consultancy of choice, offering trusted advice that helps to create an enduring natural environment legacy.

Established in 1991, Middlemarch is a wholly owned subsidiary of Warwickshire Wildlife Trust. Collectively, the Wildlife Trusts are the largest voluntary nature and conservation organisation in the UK with over 850,000 members and 35,000 volunteers working to improve nature.

THE ROLE

We've got an exciting opportunity to join us as a GIS Technician, working at our head office in Coventry.

This varied role will require you to utilise GIS cartography and innovative data solutions to support our full range of ecological products and services to collate, analyse and interpret data.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to developing new GIS solutions at Middlemarch, based on your specific skillset. In addition to your core role, you will also have the opportunity to take part in ecological fieldwork and surveys, developing an appreciation of how raw data is collected and what our clients require.

Environmental consultancy is governed by the seasons and so you'll need to be prepared to work flexibly and occasionally some unsociable hours may be required. Any additional hours worked will be covered by Overtime and / or time off in lieu.

Some travel will be required for this role and so a full driving licence would be advantageous. We have a fleet of brand new hybrid vehicles for staff to use to make travel more comfortable and to help keep our carbon footprint down.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

We're looking for candidates with experience in GIS and a passion for the natural environment.

An excellent working knowledge of Esri products and experience of using GIS tools for collecting field data (ideally ArcGIS Online and associated apps) will be key in this role.

Experience in CAD software, Python scripting or design software (e.g. SketchUp) would also be advantageous.

Candidates should be educated to degree level and able to demonstrate some experience in a similar role (a year or more). Ideally, you will also have an interest in biodiversity and an appreciation of the challenges associated with ecological field surveys.

If you're a problem-solver with great communications skills and a willingness to further develop your skills in GIS then we want to hear from you.

WHAT WE OFFER

As a part of our team, you’ll be offered a competitive salary in line with your experience and skills, the potential for performance related rewards, company pension, and the opportunity for training and continued professional development.

Middlemarch celebrates diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and is committed to providing fair and equal access to opportunities for all candidates.
