GIS/Remote Sensing Analyst Ridgeland, MS DUCKS UNLIMITED, INC. (DU) -- the leader in wetlands conservation -- has exciting opportunities for professionals with GIS and natural resources expertise. DU has been using advanced GIS and remote sensing technologies since 1984 to manage the complex issues in wetland and waterfowl management, land-use planning, and environmental conservation. DU’s Southern Regional Office (SRO) in Ridgeland, MS seeks a qualified individual to fill a regular part-time GIS/Remote Sensing Analyst vacancy. It is anticipated that this position will use advanced remote sensing and GIS technologies to manage the complex issues in wetland and waterfowl management, land use planning and environmental conservation in order to inform and guide conservation programs and habitat delivery. A Master’s degree in GIS, Geography, Natural Resources, Wildlife Management or related degree, and 2+ years of spatial analysis experience or a B.S. in similar fields and 5+ years of experience is desired. The position will report to the Manager of Conservation Planning and will support conservation activities for the SRO and Lower Mississippi Valley Joint Venture by using GIS and Remote Sensing applications to elevate waterfowl and wetland conservation through 3 primary avenues – habitat assessment,conservation targeting, and marketing. Analyst duties will include the configuring and maintenance of GIS software/hardware, compiling and maintaining GIS data, GIS data analysis (including landscape level modeling), spatial statistics, image processing/remote sensing, metadata development, creation of marketing products, and development of funding proposals. Additional responsibilities include image classification, change detection, GIS/RS project design methodology for landscape level analyses and production of cartographic products. The qualified applicant will be a self-motivated, conscientious individual who can work independently with minimal supervision and can communicate closely with other staff within Ducks Unlimited as well as other conservation partners. A strong background in remote sensing as well as depth of experience with spatial modeling is preferred. Two or more years of demonstrated experience using ERDAS Imagine image processing software, ArcMap and/or ArcSDE is required. Experience with Windows operating system, VBA, AML, Avenue, Java, wildlife management, ecology, and wetlands are also beneficial.
