As a member of our GIS team, you will provide Remote Sensing and GIS technical expertise and leadership to DU biologists, as well as collaborate with external partners to meet user needs and implement Remote Sensing and GIS project components.  The position’s primary responsibility will be the classification of satellite and aerial imagery using eCognition and Erdas Imagine software to identify wetland and upland cover types in the boreal forest region of Alaska and western Canada.  These maps provide the foundation for DU's conservation planning activities in the region. Additional responsibilities may include change detection, analyzing and producing maps for priority wetland areas, programming of basic web interfaces, applications development and testing, spatial data analysis, modeling of waterfowl and wildlife habitat, part-time IT/IS support for an office of 30+ staff and identifying and preparing proposals for grant funding opportunities.  Applicants with natural resources expertise and a passion for the outdoors and DU's conservation mission are encouraged to apply.

REQUIREMENTS:

The qualified applicant will be a self-motivated, conscientious individual who can work independently with minimal supervision, as well as communicate closely with Ducks Unlimited biologists and engineers.  Ability to work cooperatively with fellow GIS and remote sensing staff as well as with State and Federal wildlife agency personnel is mandatory.  A strong background in remote sensing and image processing techniques is essential, with experience in Erdas Imagine and eCognition strongly desired.  Experience using ArcGIS is required.  Knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems (e.g. SQL Server/Oracle/Access), programming languages (Visual Basic, Python, ArcObjects, Java, etc), SDE, and wildlife management, ecology, and wetlands are all beneficial.  Applicant must be willing and able to fly in helicopters and small aircraft in extremely remote locations.
