Global Policy & Advocacy Officer - Cambridge UK

BirdLife are looking for a Global Policy & Advocacy Officer to join a team of 6-7 people.  The successful candidate will join the Environment and Sustainable Development team and will be working directly with the Senior Advisor, Policy & Advocacy. S/he will have a strong commitment to biodiversity conservation and an understanding of the need for policy advocacy. S/he must possess negotiation and advocacy skills, especially in inter-governmental processes. S/he must have a solid track record of working in this area and must possess an outgoing personality in addition to excellent communication skills.

Job purpose and requirements:

  • To support BirdLife Partners to effect the implementation of key Multilateral Environment Agreement (MEA) decisions relevant to BirdLife’s conservation strategy
  • To develop and coordinate effective advocacy strategies to promote changes in biodiversity policy and practice at both national and international levels.
  • To help enhance the quality and relevance of BirdLife’s internal and external policy work, especially in the context of the MEAs.
  • To help ensure that Policy & Advocacy work on MEAs is integrated with and contributes substantially to the work of other components of the Environment and Sustainable Development Division, as well as relevant thematic and regional programmes.
