ENVIRON International Corporation (ENVIRON) is a leading scientific environmental consulting firm providing a broad range of technical services to both public and private sector clients.  A key component of our business model is utilizing cutting edge geospatial and environmental data visualization techniques to convey complex data analyses to our clients, the public, and the regulatory community.

ENVIRON is seeking candidates for an entry-level or mid-level geographic information systems analyst or environmental scientist with strong GIS skills for our Chicago, Illinois or  Ann Arbor, Michigan office.  Primary duties of this position will include assisting senior staff and clients of the firm with spatial data management, map production, spatial analyses, and data visualization using ArcGIS, and other geospatial or modeling software.  Additional duties may include: general information technology support, data analysis, and research related to environmental impact assessments, threatened and endangered species assessments, natural resource surveys and sampling, restoration projects, and ecological risk assessments.  Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Creation, editing, and maintenance of geospatial data
  • Geospatial visualization and modeling of surface and ground water data
  • Delineation of contaminated soil and sediment areas
  • LiDAR and bathymetric data processing
  • Map layout and design
  • Remote sensing technologies integration
  • Wetland functional assessments and delineation support
  • Environmental review (NEPA) and permitting support
  • Evaluation of remedial and restoration alternatives
  • Natural Resource Damage Assessment support
  • Ecological Risk Assessment support
Required Skills
  • Demonstrated experience with ESRI ArcGIS 9.3/10 and extensions
  • Experience with EVS, CAD, Microstation, Google Earth is a plus
  • Strong computer software/hardware qualifications
  • Geospatial analysis, modeling, map production
  • Knowledge and application of global positioning systems (GPS)
  • Project level database management techniques
  • Programming experience in Visual Basic, Python, and SQL desired
  • Well developed interpersonal skills (flexibility and aptitude for learning)
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability
  • Be able to work independently without direct supervision
  • Critical thinking
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration
Required Experience
  • B.S. required but M.S. preferred in Geography, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, Natural Resources, Fisheries and Wildlife, Ecotoxicology or Related Field.  Equivalent experience also acceptable.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience preferred, consulting experience a plus
